Many objects hold pieces of my story, but the one around which this particular poem was written is my well-used Voter Registration Card. Intimate partner and sexual abusers seeking to control people more widely through political aspirations is not new, but unacceptable and once disqualifying behavior is now normalized, victors claiming victimhood, predators protected, survivors and their needs dismissed with a sneer or attacked with ignorance and vitriol. We all deserve better, and we can make it happen. Our votes are our voices - and our power.
